There are some trends in children’s room décor that I don’t understand. One of them is the use of mounted stuffed animal trophy heads to decorate the walls. All of these rooms (featured below) are cute, but I just don’t get it. I can’t stop thinking about endangered species, poaching, blood and guts, and guns. Is the idea to imagine that the animals are alive and friendly? To be fair, I’ve never been a big fan of real mounted animal heads, but I’m guessing that most of the adults creating these kids’ bedroom interiors wouldn’t use real animal heads in the rest of their homes. Am I wrong? Does everyone else think this is cute? Let us know in the comments!
And make sure you check out the last one. That’s a mounted UNICORN head. (What fate befalls one who takes down a unicorn?)
1. Safari Trophies
There’s even a rare white tiger in this display.
2. Mounted, Scarf-Wearing Grizzly Bear
At least this bear looks happy — and warm.
3. Elephant Head
No wonder the mood is somber.
4. Eight-Point Buck
Is the baby deer on the nightstand grieving?
5. Absolutely Giant Rabbit Head
Hope that’s not the Easter Bunny.
6. Zebra Head
He’s really watching those airplanes.
7. Bengal Tiger
Looks a little lonesome up there.
So that’s what happened to Rudolph in the end.
9. Elephant on White Wall
Just like everyone else’s kitchen, right?
10. Dare I Speak the Word?
Yes, folks, this is a mounted unicorn head.
If you’ve decided you love these fake trophy heads (unlike me) but you don’t want to shell out the $50 plus to buy one, you can crochet one yourself. (A book with instructions is available here — Animal Heads: Trophy Heads to Crochet.)
